Episode 3×13: The Verdict in the Story

Posted in What a Bones Fan Has to Say with tags , , , , , , , , on June 2, 2008 by bnbfan21

This episode was absolutely incredible. It was absolutely amazing. I think it might actually be one of my all time favorite BONES episodes. It was perfect, everything about it – from beginning to end. The storyline was mad confusing, especially because it technically started when Brennan’s family were first introduced back in the last episode of the first season (The Woman in Limbo). Therefore, I’m sure a lot of people were really confused – I mean this plot line with Max Kennan (Brennan’s father) carried on for two seasons! So, I’m sure the writers knew that when they finally did end this conflict, it had to be flippin’ amazing – which hands down, it was.

The main reason why I loved this episode so much was because it was really the first time we saw all of characters together throughout the entire episode. Everyone was involved. We had Caroline Julian (Patricia Belcher), Max Kennan (Ryan O’Neil), Russ Brennan (Lorean Dean), Dr. Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley), Clark Edison (Eugene Byrd), and of course Zack, Cam, Hodgins, Angela, Booth and Brennan. But, the theme of loyalty among the characters played a huge role throughout the episode. Mainly because it was literally Brennan and her family verses Angela, Zack, Hodgins, Cam, and Booth in the court of law. This was no joke. The struggle of loyalty was tested – big time, with friendships, family ties, and partnership.

The opening scene was one of my favorite openings – Booth and Brennan arrive at the crime as usual except this body as Booth describes was “a whole new level of weird.” It really did look, as Booth said, as if the body “was rolled up in a carpet.” Well, that was all he had to say to get Brennan to start laughing uncontrollably. Just watching her laugh like that made me start cracking up!

But, back to Max’s case. We all knew that Max Kennan killed Deputy Director Robert Kirby of the FBI, (for details on that watch Judas on a Pole – episode #211) and everyone believed that – including his two children. And if your children know the truth about you, then you might as well forget it! However, we all know that murder shouldn’t be justified, but in Max’s world it was the right thing to do. So throughout the episode, I really didn’t know who to root for….was it “the good guys,” which consisted of all the squints, Sweets, and Booth, who were all testifying against Max, or Brennan who knew that her father did what he did in order to protect her and her brother. This is what really made the episode so intense and interesting – I loved it!

Tensions were high in this episode, I mean this is Bones’ father were talking about here! And the fact that Booth was the arresting officer of Max made it “wicked stressful” for Brennan – as Sweets explained. And, this is really where Brennan struggled a lot because logically her brain was telling her that her dad is the killer and deserves to be punished – after all that is what she and Booth do for a living, catch murderers. But because this was her father, her heart was breaking, and her emotions were torn. (And the Emmy goes to Emily Deschanel!) She knew her father should be in jail, but she really didn’t want him to because she loves him. Booth, who was trying his hardest to keep neutral in this battle field, really felt sorry for his partner, and told her “to put her brain in neutral, and her heart into overdrive,” which of course made her laugh (again) and also made her able to accept all her feelings about Max’s case as being okay.

This was also difficult for the squints, especially Angela to testify against Max. Now, Brennan understood that they needed to do what they had to do because it was their job – by law, but still, the loyalty of true friendship was tested when Angela got on the stand. She was the official person who identified the remains as Deputy Kirby’s, and absolutely refused to testify. At first she pleaded the 5th, but after that failed her, she pleaded the 1st. (Ha Ha! I love Angela!) Her reasoning? The 1st amendment protects freedom of association which can deal with friendship, and therefore “is even better then taking the 5th!” This was a great Angela moment which lead to one of the best heart-to-heart talks between the two girls, and also taught us that “friends don’t send friends father’s to the electric chair.”

Another part I liked was when Brennan and Booth were sitting on opposite aisles of the court room, but continued to talk to each other. They ended up getting separated from one another like 5 year olds by the judge. That was hilarious especially when Booth looked at Brennan and said “you know Bones, you really do whisper louder then you think you do!”

Anyway, a lot happened in this episode! Brennan definitely was in a tough predicament, but ended up taking Booth’s advice. Since the squints’ accusations against Max were technically only a hypothesis, it only makes it 99.9% accurate without a confession. With knowing this and with her father’s life on the line, Brennan decided to twist the evidence and make a different interpretation of the facts – creating reasonable doubt on the case. The new theory? Brennan was the murderer. The only person that can help create this scenario if asked the right questions? Booth. This was the part that gave me goose bumps, and it showed just how incredibly strong this partnership is. What Brennan asked Booth to do was powerful, and that scene was moving. Booth had to raise suspicion that his partner, his partner, was a murderer – Wow! The verdict? Max Kennan was set free and that final scene with everyone hugging one another and our two lovable criminals (Angela and Max) being released from the court house actually brought a tear to my eye.

So, now that Max Kennan’s case is all over, Brennan and Booth technically don’t have to attend couples therapy anymore – but don’t worry, they made a deal with “Dr. Geeks.” Since he wants to write a book on their partnership, he needs to continue to study them. He doesn’t quite understand how two people like them are so different yet are able to work so well together. In return, Sweets does physiological profiling on demand. That sounds like a great idea – I was wondering how the writers were going to keep Sweets in the picture. Well, this was a fabulous episode, job well done! Thanks for reading The Anatomy of Bones!

Episode 3×09: Baby in the Bough

Posted in What a Bones Fan Has to Say with tags , , on May 9, 2008 by bnbfan21

FAB-U-LOUS! That is the word I’m choosing to describe this episode – fabulous. Brennan and Booth trying to take care of a six month old baby…what more can you ask for??

The dynamics between Brennan and Booth were at their best – which made this episode one of the funniest, laugh-out-loud-able episode ever. However, a couple of parts in this episode were far-fetched, but of course those comedic one-liners made up for it. For example, I understand that the mother of Andy (the baby) and her car was “dowsed with gasoline” and the then basically set on fire and pushed off the side of the road…..but how did that baby end up perfectly fine, in his car-seat no less, on a branch (or bough) in a nearby tree? (And of course nobody heard him or even saw him up in the tree until Brennan and Booth discovered him up there…that part I get.) But, once again, those writers sure know how to make me laugh at the least expecting moment! It is a miracle that Andy did not get one scratch on him – right?

Brennan: “Hardly! Car-seats are specifically engineered to protect a child from…”

Booth: “…from what! Flying out of the back of a car and landing in a tree?”

I love it when they finish each others sentences, and the constant bicker-banter is absolutely great!

The sections of the episode dedicated to Bones taking care of the baby were somewhat predicable, but still definitely worth the show! When she started off, Brennan – being Brennan – didn’t want anything to do with Andy. In the beginning, she continued to hand Andy over to Booth, aka the “baby daddy” (“previous exposure to pre-verbal infancy”) and complaining that just because she has breasts doesn’t give her “magical powers of infants.” She doesn’t feel comfortable with children in the beginning, but by the end of the episode she has grown to love and appreciate the little man!

The Squints this episode were great! They all adored little Andy – especially Angela who mentions that she wants “like a million of these,” and creating a somewhat nervous Hodgins who thought they would just have one or two children. One and one million kids aren’t that big a difference…right? Poor Hodgins!

The case this episode was tricky – I would have never guessed that Biff was the killer! Yes, that’s right, Biff – the guy from Back to the Future (Thomas F. Wilson) – was the official murderer of our two victims this episode! Total shocker for me!

Overall, I feel that after watching this episode, my IQ increased about 50 points – I learned so much! I learned that bone particles do not float in water, mixing muriatic acid with metal restores filed off serial numbers on guns, people who write best selling novels can make over seven figures, (without the decimal point) babies put everything in their mouth – including big gold keys (?), and in reality elephants are not purple (as scene on stuffed animals) and bears will devour a small child, therefore they should not be placed on children’s clothing. This episode was absolutely hilarious and extremely entertaining. Thanks for reading, (sorry for the wait) and wait for the next post on The Anatomy of Bones.

Episode 3×12: Player Under Pressure

Posted in What a Bones Fan Has to Say with tags , , , , , on April 23, 2008 by bnbfan21

Second week back into our third season after the WGA strike of BONES, and what an episode! It was terrific! The case itself this week was really intense. The star point guard on a college basketball team was murdered, which means lots of suspects, (i.e. the coach, the girlfriend, the “second best” point guard, and of course the creepy goth girl), lots of hormones, and lots of drama. I mean, who would have guessed the head security guard on campus (who was actually helping Brennan and Booth find the murderer) was the murderer!

The victim’s body was definitely in the top 3 of the vilest bodies ever. (Number one being The Truth in the Lye, episode 205, and number two being episode 307, The Boy in the Time Capsule – pools of human ooze totally gross me out!) For some reason, I could not wrap my head around the fact that the body got squished behind the bleachers – accordion style…maybe its because of Hodgins and Zack’s brilliant experiment to reenact the whole 8 seconds of the powerful bleachers closing up and compounding a human skull into a wall. Thanks guys… that got me squeamish just thinking about it, and then I had to watch it actually happen! But what really grossed me out was when Brennan found a huge rat living within what was left of the body…didn’t seem that bad at first until she pulls back what is left of the clothes, and there lies about four baby rats! That was absolutely disgusting. And then Brennan asks for a bag to carry them all in back to the Jeffersonian! Ewww!

But the gross-ness didn’t end there! (But this was actually funnier to watch then it was gross.) Picture this- Hodgins using Cam’s blender to grind up all these disgusting maggots, (found on the dead body of course) and then nonchalantly stating to her that he will “rinse it out” when he is finished using it. I didn’t know whether I should laugh or cry!

However, on a more serious note – this episode was originally scheduled to air less then a week after the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Because this case focused around a murder on a college campus, out of respect to those effected by the Virginia Tech incident, Fox decided to pull the episode and play it on a different date. With that being said, many of you might have noticed a little less character development then usual, or maybe you noticed the fact that Sweets didn’t even exist yet! I believe that this episode was supposed to be the first time Hodgins proposed to Angela (intending to be episode 209, right before Spaceman in a Crater). Considering Hodgins and Angela are passed that part in their relationship, all of the scenes with them together had to be replaced. So, I’m assuming, our brilliant writers (once again, thank you Hart Hanson) created those hilarious scenes between Cam and Angela about the struggles of keeping their “personal lives” out of the professional workplace…and learning that their lunch hours should not be spent hanging out in the storage room.

Overall, this episode was still fabulous – even with all the necessary chronological changes. I thought that having an episode dealing with basketball made the dynamics between Booth (a die-hard basketball fan) and Brennan (someone who doesn’t understand why such stupid boys get into college for just “bouncing a ball”) very interesting and witty. But for a woman who doesn’t like basketball, that look on her face after she made that shot in the basket was priceless!

Once again, this episode was full of emotional drama, character drama, suspenseful moments, (like when Brennan and Booth had to stop the murderer from commiting suicide, see picture below) and forensic elements – all mixed with cleverly entertaining humor. Next weeks episode makes our favorite pair the guardians of an abandoned baby! I can’t wait! Thanks for reading, and wait for next week’s post on The Anatomy of Bones.

Why Bones is the Perfect Show

Posted in Media About Bones with tags , , , on April 18, 2008 by bnbfan21

I know that BONES is not a very popular show compared to House or Grey’s Anatomy, but I really believe that BONES is definitely one of the best television shows out there, and also very underestimated. Apparently, someone else agrees with me! This is an article written by Jamie Frevele, (found from The Huffington Post website) all about “the perfect show” on TV. Enjoy!

Episode 3×11: The Man in the Mud

Posted in What a Bones Fan Has to Say with tags , , , , , , , , on April 17, 2008 by bnbfan21

So, let me start off my saying…Welcome Back BONES!! After a long five month wait, this new episode was well worth it!

First off, did anybody see little Andy Lawrence in the beginning of the episode? I got so distracted with watching him get into the bubbling mud pit, in the middle of the woods no less, that I didn’t even realize he was holding a slimy human hand…minus the skin of course! What an entrance!

As the credits continued to take up the bottom of my TV screen, (so many producers…) in walks my dynamic duo, my awesome twosome, the ketchup to my french-fries, my kick-ass crime solving team – Dr. Brennan and Agent Booth. What a pair! Of course they were bickering as usual, but that just showed me how much I really did miss them! Anyway, I’m so excited to see Dr. Sweets (John Francis Daley) in the beginning credits! This means he will be around for a while, and I just adore him!

The case itself this week, famous motorcyclist gets murdered by ex-girlfriend, was not the most riveting case, but still kept me guessing who the murderer was throughout the whole show (my vote was on the arch enemy until he, and his motorcycle, got blown up). But, it was the development of Bones and Booth that made the episode really great. It really was such a creative idea (thank you Hart Hanson) to put them on a double date – err, I mean – “social outing,” with Sweets and his girlfriend, April, who by the way is really annoying and a little odd (yes, even odder then Bones). Honestly though, just to see Booth in a ceramics class with a tie-dyed  art smock on, made that five month wait all worth it! That scene was just too funny! And, can I just say that I love the relationship between Booth and Sweets. Like when Sweets informs Brennan and Booth that they are to join him and April in a “social outing,” Booth (being Booth) slyly turns to his partner and remarks “They just need someone to buy them beer.” Poor Sweets! It’s almost as bad as when Booth told him that he couldn’t take him seriously as a psychologist because he looks like a twelve year old boy (by the way, Sweets is 22). Touching, isn’t it?

My favorite scenes in this episode were definitely with Sweets, and even at the end, after April dumped him, (I knew I didn’t like her!) it was so cute that he went to the Jeffersonian in hopes that his favorite patients were there. Of course they were, and to cheer Sweets up, Brennan and Booth even took him to the bowling alley – or “bowling rink” as Brennan calls it.

Now, let’s not forget about the Squint Squad! This supporting cast who, even though had very little screen time, certainly did help solve the murder, and make the episode even better! That obviously counts for something, especially when the title of “King of the Lab” is at stake! The squints were great of course, witty and kooky as usual, but I’m not sure I really liked Cam’s outfit. She had that collar popped up, and it made her look very vampiric… Hodgins, was well, Hodgins, with his short span for dealing with annoying behavior…a.k.a. Zack in a room holding metal rods that are continuously dropping on the floor in a repetitive and clumsy manner.  Poor Zack…I would love to see who is dorkier – Zack or Sweets? That’s actually a tough one! Get on that Hart Hanson!

Overall, this long awaited episode was great. It reminded me of why I first fell in love with the show in the beginning. BONES balances fascinating crimes with humor, complicated relationships, and fully articulated characters, and this episode surely did that talent justice. I loved every minute of it, even when Angela recognized the famous motorcyclist…really Ang? You watch guys riding there bicycles around a circular track over and over again? Oh well…..but speaking of sports, next weeks episode deals with an actual real sport – college basketball. Thanks for reading, and welcome back BONES!

Countdown to New Episodes

Posted in Countdown to New Episodes with tags , , on April 12, 2008 by bnbfan21

As you all know, (and for those of you who don’t know, this might be the reason why you havn’t had a new episode of Lost in awhile) the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike was a huge setback for all of Hollywood. The production of movies, television, and basically the rest of the entertainment industry was at a stand still. BONES, was one of the television shows effected by this strike, and we have not had a new episode since November 27th, 2007. Wow! Thats a long time!

But, we are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel……there is going to be a brand new episode of BONES on Monday, April 14th, 2008 at 8pm!! Here is the official countdown: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=4&day=14&year=2008&hour=8pm&min=0&sec=0&p0=179

Welcome!

Posted in Introductory with tags , , on April 12, 2008 by bnbfan21

My mother always told me that the good things in life happen when you least expect it. I never really believed that it was true, until the evening of November 1, 2006. This was the first time I had ever scene BONES, and it changed my life……well, it didn’t exactly ”change” my life, but it was unlike any show I have ever watched before. I was never a fan of the “seriously boring” crime-drama shows, and I thought that BONES was just another NYPD Blue, Law and Order, The Closer, or maybe just another show that should have been named some sort of abbreviation (i.e. CSI, NCIS…etc).  So I started to tune in every week, and discovered that the crime-drama shows aren’t so bad after all!

Anyway, I obviously love BONES, so what better way to express my opinions about my favorite TV show then starting a blog all about it! Every week, I will discuss what I thought of each new episode and my personal favorite scenes. Thanks for reading, and welcome to The Anatomy of Bones! Enjoy!
